Overview:

Jarrod Wilson is a tall, lanky free safety prospect with the frame to add plenty of weight.

He led his team to a runner up position in the Ohio football playoffs. His team lost to Bishop Watterson 13-12.

Jarrod recorded 52 tackles, 10 interceptions (8 by another source), returning 5 for touchdowns.

His team is coached by former Michigan standout Ricky Powers.

Again, Michigan is getting a good student as Jarrod has a 3.4 GPA.

Some consider Jarrod to be one of the most underrated prospects in Ohio.

Some claim his upside as very high.

Strengths:

Jarrod is the ideal deep middle safety prospect.

He shows outstanding coverage skills, including range, anticipation, and the ability to read routes.

Jarrod is a fast athlete (4.5) and he plays sideline to sideline.

On film it seems he is always around the ball.

But more importantly not only is he around the ball, but he gets the ball.

Coach Powers states that when Jarrod gets the ball the result is a good chance of going to the house.

Needs work:

Jarrod is still raw and definitely needs to get stronger and add some weight.

His tackling needs to improve.

It is not that he is a bad tackler or does not show up.

He seems to get downhill a little quick instead of breaking down his steps and maintaining proper leverage.

Jarrod needs to play lower.

In short, he is a little raw, but early enrollment next year should help.

Final Thoughts:

We welcome Jarrod Wilson to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine believes he will likely play his first year. Red-shirting would help like most freshman, but with Michigan’s depth problems at safety he maybe forced to play. Again one of those players that would benefit from red-shirting, but the lack of talent in front of him might force him on the field before he is ready.

Coach Powers told us at the Michigan Coach’s Clinic that he believes Jarrod will try and enroll early. If that happens then he will play for sure in our opinion.

Jarrod Wilson reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — (Old-Timers you will like this) Thom Darden — who played every Defensive Back position.
