Michigan football fans have been hoping for some new wide receiver targets to emerge for star quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Yet, after some news broke on Thursday, we know at least one name who won't emerge for Michigan football in 2025. That's Fred Moore, a former three-star receiver from Missouri, who has left the program.

This was reported by Isaiah Hole of Wolverine Wire. Moore has played in four games so far this season with zero receptions.

Moore was expected to compete for a starting job

It's a reminder that things change quickly in college football. After catching a touchdown pass against Alabama in the bowl game, it felt like Moore would have a role with the Wolverines in 2025, maybe even as a starter. Yet, that didn't materialize.

Moore was passed on the depth chart by Channing Goodwin, who has started all four games. Semaj Morgan is still playing in the slot. Donaven McCulley is a clear No. 1.

Moore had a clear chance to make a move up the depth chart and it didn't happen. Andrew Marsh was mentioned as a guy this week, by head coach Sherrone Moore, as a player who could get more snaps. That probably helped Moore make the decision to leave.

By leaving now, Moore can redshirt this season and maintain a year of eligibility. He'll be able to enter the transfer portal and find a new program in the winter. There is just one transfer portal window now.

Moore caught four passes for 32 yards in 13 games as a freshman. He had 11 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown in 2024, after playing in 13 games again.
