2. Ohio State Would Have the Weakest National Championship Season in History
As our own Chris Peterson pointed out earlier today, if Ohio State were to win today it would be the most disappointing national title season in history. The Buckeyes would be the first two-loss national champion of the playoff era and the first since LSU in 2007. The Buckeyes didn't beat their rival, they didn't win either of their two most important games of the season, and they didn't win the Big Ten or even play in the championship game.
This is a team that was bailed out by an expanded playoff format who otherwise wouldn't have held any weight in the merit of the national championship conversation. On top of that, no one on their roster has ever beaten Michigan. That's right, if they win tonight their senior class would go out as national champions who never had the joy (or maybe relief) of beating their biggest rival. This season would still have to feel like somewhat of a letdown regardless of what anyone says.
