Few head coaches had more success in the history of "The Game" than former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who posted a 7-0 career as Buckeyes head coach against Michigan football.
That seven-year run with him as the head coach was hell for Michigan football fans. The Wolverines came close a few times to beating Meyer, most notably during the 2016 edition of "The Game" when Ohio State won, in part thanks to controversial call.
We won't get into that. Over the past three years, Meyer, now a college football analyst for Fox Sports, has watched Michigan football turned the rivalry in its favor. The Wolverines have won three games in a row and only one game was decided by single digits.
That was last season's 30-24 win for the Wolverines. That was maybe the most important game in the history of the rivalry with everything that was at stake. Ohio State will clinch a spot in the Big Ten championship game with a win, but outside of the rivalry bragging rights, that's the only thing at stake.
Urban Meyer's Michigan football vs. Ohio State prediction
Of course, for Ryan Day, a loss to Michigan football could mean losing his job. For the Wolverines, it would mean salvaging a miserable season. Meyer doesn't see that happening though and on the Triple Option Podcast, Meyer predicted that Ohio State would beat Michigan football by 18.
“I look at that point spread, and that alarms me a little bit,” Meyer said. “The Buckeyes will win The Game. The Buckeyes are a much better football team. They have better players right now. But there’s also, there’s a little bit of fight in the Wolverines. They played their best game last week. I know it was against Northwestern, but they’ve settled on a quarterback. They look better. … I think Ohio State wins, but I don’t know if they cover. 21’s a lot of points. … So I’m gonna say Ohio State wins. I don’t think it’s gonna be that close, but I’m saying 18 points.”
