The transfer portal activity is picking up once again. The dead period is over, and Michigan football is hosting a slew of transfer portal targets this weekend.
One of them is former Clemson defensive lineman Tre Williams. The 6-foot-2, 315-pounder has played 722 career snaps in 44 games with the Tigers. He's only made four starts but has 42 tackles (10.0 for loss), 4.0 sacks, two pass breakups and three fumble recoveries.
Williams entered the transfer portal earlier this week. The former top-100 recruit is visting Michigan football this weekend. The Wolverines have an obivous need at defensive tackle after the departures of Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant for the NFL draft.
Williams isn't on par with either of those players. However, his film is intriguing and there is NFL talent there. At times, Williams can be dominant, but injuries held him back. The 315-pounder would have one season left to play. He had 16 tackles in over 300 defensive snaps this season (3 starts). Williams was also credited with two sacks in the College Football Playoff loss to Texas.
The Clemson defensive tackle has now been projected to land with the Wolverines according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, who put in a prediction with 70 percent confidence.
Add Williams to a defensive tackle group featuring Rayshaun Benny, Trey Pierce, Damon Payne, and Enow Etta, and the Wolverines should be solid there. It won't be the same as the past two seasons, but Williams is another dude who can eat up snaps and make flashy plays, like Payne.
Justice Haynes officially joins Michigan football
Justice Haynes, the former five-star running back from Alabama committed to Michigan football even before the New Year but hadn't signed. Some fans started to get concerned, especially after Jordan Marshall had a great game in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
But Haynes was announced by the Michigan football account on X, which means that he has signed with the program. The pairing of Haynes who averaged 5.9 yards per rushing attempt during his career with Alabama and Marshall, should be a formidable one.
Marshall, a true freshman, won the ReliaQuest Bowl MVP after 100 yards on 23 carries in the 19-13 Michigan win.
