With all of the transfer portal happenings of Michigan basketball, it would be easy for Wolverines fans to forget about five-star guard Trey McKenney, a signee in the 2025 class.
McKenney, a 6-foot-4 guard from the state of Michigan who is ranked 17th overall in the 2025 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and on Saturday night, he reminded people why.
Heck, McKenney's performance in the Nike Hoop Summit made you wonder if he should be ranked higher. McKenney played just 20 minutes but scored 22 points and was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

Dusty May's biggest recruiting win so far was 7-of-9 from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds, dished out an assist, and was 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
Looking at the current lineup, following the addition of Aday Mara, Michigan basketball still has a need for shooting, playmaking, and more ball-handling, especially based on last season. Roddy Gayle is coming back, but we still haven't heard about Nimari Burnett, although May said that the Wolverines "expect" him to be back next season.
Burnett would be a fixture in the starting lineup. Elliot Cadeau will be the starting point guard, while the Wolverines have two starting-caliber centers -- Morez Johnson and Mara. Yaxel Lendeborg seems like an ideal fit as the four.
Michigan basketball could still use another wing, and more perimeter shooting, but is it crazy to think McKenney could work his way into a starting role? The lineup of Cadeau, McKenney, Burnett, Yaxel, and Johnson/Mara sounds prolific.
Will Tschetter is also in the mix, along with Gayle. Michigan basketball also has two other talented freshmen, Winters Grady and Oscar Goodman, who redshirted this season, plus any other pending addiitons via the tranfser portal.
In terms of talent, though, it's hard to imagine Michigan finding a more talented player in the portal than McKenney, who certainly looked ready for big-time college basketball on Saturday night.
