The Wolverines missed on their first transfer portal target at quarterback (Billy Edwards) after he decided that Wisconsin was a better opportunity.
Bryce Underwood's presence on the roster doesn't make it easy for the Wolverines to land a transfer portal quarterback for a year. It limits the options for one, but you need the right quarterback for this situation.
On the other side of it, Michigan football could be an attractive option. There is going to be talent around the quarterback. The offensive line will be better and I have no doubt that Michigan will be more equipped to be a playoff team.
Michigan football has three good QB options
DeQuan Finn, who played three games for Baylor last season and was previously the MAC MVP for Toldeo, is visiting Michigan football today (Wednesday) according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports. He's from Detroit and has one season left. I broke him down earlier this week, but Finn would be a great option, especially because Chip Lindsey would know what to do with him.
Finn isn't the only option though. According to The Wolverine, Michigan football is also interested in Nevada quarterback Brendon Lewis. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound quarterback threw 16 touchdown passes last season (7 interceptions) and is a 61-percent career passer on 839 attempts.
Like Finn, Lewis would be an interesting dual-threat option and has a mutual interest. Michigan hasn't had a quarterback like that, at least that it was willing to use, in a long time.
I'm sure that the Wolverines are working to get Lewis on campus for a visit but Pete Nakos of On3.com is also reporting that former Fresno State quarterack Mikey Keene will visit this weekend.
Keene is 5-foot-11 but led the Mountain West in passing yards this season (2,892). Keene has 1,170 pass attempts for his career. He's also got 65 career touchdowns compared to 28 interceptions, 8,245 passing yards, and a 67.2 career completion percentage.
Keene also played for Chip Lindsey back in 2022. He'll understand what the new Michigan football offensive coordinator wants to do and feels like a good mentor for Underwood. Keene is also visiting Ole Miss so there are lots of moving parts.
It might be best to lock down a commitment from Finn if possible but one way or another, it seems like Michigan football is determined to add a stop-gap quarterack, sooner rather than later.
