It might have slipped the mind of some Michigan fans, but spring practice is starting this week for the Wolverines, and there is already some positive buzz.
Of course, there is always buzz in the spring, so take it with a grain of salt. But, Josh Henschke of the Maize and Blue Review posted on X on Monday that Savion Hiter and JJ Buchanan were among the newcomers who have started "generating buzz."
Michigan added serious talent through the portal and recruiting, but spring practices will show who's ready to contribute in 2026. Savion Hiter and JJ Buchanan are already generating buzz.

Could we see some surprises?

Spring buzz about newcomers shouldn't surprise Michigan fans
This shouldn't surprise anyone. Hiter is one of the best running back recruits Michigan has ever signed. That's not based on his ranking, although that's also true, but more just watching his film. The kid is special, and I'd be shocked if it wasn't an 1A/1B situation with Jordan Marshall at running back.
Frankly, I wasn't bothered to see Justice Haynes leave in the slightest. Don't take that as a shot. He's an elite running back, but if he stayed, Marshall or Hiter, one of the two, probably doesn't. I'd rather have Hiter than any other running back on this roster.
Michigan football fans will see why this season, although Marshall will be an All-Big Ten performer, too. Still, it's good to hear that Hiter is impressing early. That's exactly what you want to hear.
Buchanan is another who should turn into a fan favorite. The former Utah wide receiver/tight end, who will play wide out for the Wolverines, is 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, and caught 26 catches for 427 yards and five touchdowns last season. In the last four games, he had at least one reception of at least 29 yards in each.
Pairing him with Bryce Underwood and Andrew Marsh is going to be a fun thing for Michigan football fans. Hiter and Marshall can rival any running back tandem in the country, and when you add in the offensive line, the coaching up front from Jim Harding and the playcalling of Jason Beck, this could be one of the best offenses in college football.
