The Michigan Wolverines are going to be stacked at the quarterback position for years to come, thanks to the recruiting prowess of head coach Sherone Moore. The Wolverines were able to land 5-star, No. 1 overall 2025 recruit Bryce Underwood, and now they have landed another solid quarterback recruit in the Class of 2026.
Over the weekend, when the excitement of the NFL Draft was taking place, 4-star recruit Brady Smigiel, the No. 4-ranked quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to Michigan for his college career.
Smigiel was once committed to the Florida State Seminoles, but de-committed a few months ago and was on the move again. Smigiel is the No. 45 recruit overall in the Class of 2026, according to the ESPN top 300 recruit rankings. The young gunslinger made his official visit to Michigan on April 19, the same weekend as Michigan's spring game, and got to see what coveted signee Underwood did in his debut in a Michigan uniform.

Michigan continues to show quarterback dominance in the recruiting game
In his time as the Michigan head coach, Sherone Moore has now brought in two top 50 quarterback recruits, one of them being the No. 1 overall recruit in his class. Moore is showing that even without the name Jim Harbaugh associated with the Wolverines, he can still have an elite recruiting program.
Smigiel's commitment just goes to show that Moore is doing something right for the Wolverines. Moore understands, though, that it isn't just him doing the recruiting. Spigiel said that a large reason he chose Michigan was because of his relationship with offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who just joined the program this offseason.
The fact that Smigiel could also seen the field soon after he steps foot onto the Michigan campus is also another reason he was ready to commit to the Maize and Blue. With Underwood most likely being named the starting quarterback sometime during the 2025 season, he will potentially play two seasons at Michigan before moving on to the NFL.
The other quarterbacks on the Michigan roster right now are Mieky Keene, who is heading out the door due to eligibility after this season, and Jadyn Davis, who has already spent two seasons in Ann Arbor, and by the looks of the spring game, Underwood is the clear starter between the two.
If Moore can continue to build the program using great quarterback after great quarterback, they can just keep passing the ball to the next high-rated recruit coming through the doors to play in a Michigan uniform.
