Ryan Day throws subtle shade at Michigan in weak move after Ohio State win

Ryan Day seemed to kick Michigan while the Wolverines were down while attempting to be classy.

It was not the Michigan Wolverines' day on Saturday afternoon. They could not do much of anything at all on offense vs. Matt Patricia's defense. Although their season comes to an end, at least Ohio State did not plan the flag on the M at midfield of The Big House... Ohio State head coach Ryan Day would not allow that. This is the same head coach who talked about "kicking ass" earlier in the week.

So over the course of a week, he claims to know what humility is all about. Well, if Ebenezer Scrooge can learn how to be a good person overnight, then bless his heart, too... Ohio State's 27-9 victory over Michigan sends the Buckeyes to the Big Ten Championship where they will take on the also undefeated Indiana Hoosiers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next week. Someone has to lose...

But during the postgame interview with FOX Sports' Jenny Taft, this felt like such a dig at Michigan.

"We're going to win with humility."

Ohio State is one of the best teams in college football so far, but they have not exactly been humble.

We all remember that one time when Danny O'Shea beat Kevin downhill while racing their bikes, right?

Ryan Day takes unsolicited shot at Michigan without understanding irony

Even though Michigan will not be part of the College Football Playoff yet again this postseason, Ohio State is not one of the teams an unbiased observer is actively going to root for. The Buckeyes may be the defending national champions, but they have not played one of the most difficult schedules. Although the Texas Techs of the world are not going to win it all, they are infinitely easier to root for.

Look. The winning streak was bound to come to an end at some point. Michigan has pulled back since winning the College Football Playoff two years ago, but usually gives the Buckeyes their best shot. Weather might have been a factor, but then again, both teams had to play in it. Truth be told, bad weather helps the underdog more. This game was at home and Michigan lost by multiple scores here.

In the end, this game should serve as an inflection point for the Wolverines. This is Sherrone Moore's team now, but he can no longer coast off what made the Jim Harbaugh era so special. For a minute there, Day did that in the extended wake of Urban Meyer. It took a while, but he has answered every bell over the last few years. It is time for Moore to pick himself up by his bootstraps and get to work.

Here is to rooting against everyone that Day and his delightful Buckeyes play against moving forward.
