Michigan football has been dealing with a couple of NCAA investigations. While many fans know of the investigation into advanced scouting allegedly done by Connor Stalions, the Wolverines have also been on the hook for some recruiting violations tied to "Burger Gate."
We saw the last of those penalties play out in May. The Michigan football staff, as a self-imposed measure, took its staff off the road for recruiting visits for a couple of weeks.
On Wednesday, it was reported by EJ Holland of The Wolverine, that Michigan football was also taking part in official visit reductions. Holland reported that this is what he was told by the representatives of Christian Ward, a four-star wideout who was supposed to be in Ann Arbor for an official visit last weekend but didn't make the trip.
Report of Michigan reduction in official visits was "false"
Holland reported it was because of a reduction of official visits. Yet, that wasn't accurate. Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider pushed back on that Thursday with his own post clarifying things:
Any report of a self-imposed official visit reduction by Michigan was/is false. Only self-imposed restriction was recent shutdown with coaches off the road to close out the “burger-gate” penalty. UM hasn't cut officials, and hasn't declined extending invitations to any prospects…

"Any report of a self-imposed official visit reduction by Michigan was/is false. Only self-imposed restriction was recent shutdown with coaches off the road to close out the “burger-gate” penalty. UM hasn't cut officials, and hasn't declined extending invitations to any prospects pursuant to this made-up restriction," Webb wrote on X.
Holland's post has been taken down. He did report on The Wolverine message boards that Ward is now off the recruiting board for Michigan football. That's why he didn't end up taking the visit, and it's not expected to be rescheduled.
Ohio State fans are gearing up for the hearing with the committee of infractions, as they hope the NCAA will vacate Michigan's previous wins over Ohio State, but since the Wolverines didn't use ineligible players, as Ohio State did throughout the tenure of Jim Tressel, the wins won't be vacated.
