One of the unsung heroes in the recruitment of Bryce Underwood for Michigan football was Sean Magee, the general manager.
Magee is one of the most important assets the Wolverines have on the recruiting trail. He's essentially become the manager of Michigan's salary cap in an NIL sense.
Things worked out extremely well down the stretch of the 2025 recruiting class. Michigan football signed Underwood, as well as a consensus top-10 recruiting class. Magee was a huge part of that, but there was a concern that he could be leaving for the Navy athletic director job.
Magee was viewed as a serious candidate, which would have left a vacancy for Sherrone Moore to deal with. Moore has done a stellar job of hiring coaches, but Magee can have a hand in that too.
Magee was first hired by Jim Harbaugh and has ties to the NFL after being the Chief of Staff for the Chicago Bears. He knows personnel and the economics of football.
However, Pete Thamel reported that Navy is targeting former USF athletic director Michael Kely to become its next athletic director, which would seem to take Magee out of the running.
Keeping Magee would be a major win for the Wolverines and allows them to dodge a bullet.
Santo Ono news has nothing to do with football
If you haven't heard, Santa Ono was voted down as the next president of Florida. That happened on Tuesday, and of course, rival fans have tried to turn that into something related to the NCAA investigation and the hearing later this week.
Ono wasn't voted down because of the NCAA investigation into U-M football. It was about his stance on DEI. Essentially, it came down to politics. John U. Bacon even predicted it.
Ohio State fans are celebrating the hearing this week as though it will be some major victory, which is understandable, considering they haven't had anything Michigan-related to celebrate in years.
Over 2,000 days to be exact.
We'll see what happens, but the NCAA President said Michigan football won "fair and square." There hasn't been any discussion about wins being vacated, and even though Sherrone Moore shouldn't be suspended, the Wolverines' only major violations have to do with a perceived lack of cooperation.
We'll see what happens, but if the NCAA doesn't grant the greatest wish of Buckeye fans, you have to wonder what the reaction will be.
