Michigan football didn't play this week, but the Wolverines should be moving up in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

A few teams ahead of Michigan lost such as Virginia and Louisville. Those teams aren't out of the mix but if the Wolverines win out, beating Ohio State, they will be ranked ahead of them in the final College Football Playoff rankings.

Where will Michigan be ranked in next CFP Rankings

The AP Poll has Michigan 18th. The Coaches have Michigan ranked 17th. The College Football Playoff Rankings had U-M ranked 21st last week. USC didn't do anything to drop. They will move up.

Iowa lost a close game against Oregon. Still, it was their third loss, so they will drop behind Michigan. BYU dropped to 12th in the AP poll after its loss to Texas Tech, so that would be the last team out.

Oklahoma is 11th according to the AP Poll, so that's another team Michigan that should be cheering on to lose. The Wolverines' lone top-25 win got taken off the board as Washington fell to Wisconsin. The Huskies are out of the playoff race, but a few more wins from Washington would have been good for Michigan's resume.

Nebraska is 7-3. If the Huskers keep winning, that road win will look better and better. Looking ahead to Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings, my prediction is that the Wolverines jump 2-3 spots. 18th seems just right. It's hard to disagree with the AP Poll.

With essentially the top-11 teams going to get berths, outside of some championship game upsets, and the group of five team, No. 12 is basically the cut-off point. You have to be ranked higher. 10th is even safer.

Michigan being ranked 18th means it would be 7-8 spots from where the Wolverines need to be with three weeks to go. A win over Ohio State might not be enough, unless some other teams lose, but as we saw on Saturday, there should be plenty of chaos between now and the final College Football Playoff Rankings.
