There were some upsets in College Football Week 11, but things didn't get nearly as crazy as they could have been.
Michigan football was off this week, ahead of back-to-back road games against Northwestern and Maryland. Today was a good day to observe that in the Big Ten, on the road, there is no such thing as a guarnateed win.
Indiana needed one of the best touchdown catches you will ever see to stave off an upset bid by Penn State. Wisconsin, which was winless in the Big Ten, and hadn't scored a touchdown at home since September, knocked off 23rd-ranked Washington 13-10.
Wisconsin only threw for 46 yards. For Michigan football, that result wasn't great. It's not terrible to have another two-loss Big Ten team lose, however, Washington was Michigan's most impressive win, and that got devalued on Saturday by the Badgers.
It certainly didn't hurt Michigan football that teams like Virginia and Louisville lost. Iowa also lost to Oregon on a last-second field goal. That's another result that's good for the Wolverines. Iowa is essentially eliminated from playoff contention now.
The Indiana result doesn't impact Michigan. The Wolverines don't need to even reach the Big Ten championship game to make the College Football Playoff; they just need to be 10-2.
That's the consensus among Michigan fans. Yet, as I pointed out earlier this week, it wouldn't be bad if USC beat Iowa, and Oregon beat USC. That would make Michigan football the Big Ten's final two-loss team.
Then, as long as Michigan takes care of business, it should make the College Football Playoff.
