Leadership

Michigan football lost so much veteran leadership from last year's team. Watching them this year, there just isn't the same level of discipline and focus.

Guys are getting rattled, taking undisciplined penalties, and missing assignments on both sides of the ball. Sherrone Moore has preached this being a player-led team so much but outside of a few guys, there aren't that many experienced veteran guys back on the roster this year.

This team seems desperate for someone to step up who everyone can get behind. And nine times out of ten that player is your quarterback. Even going back to 2021 Cade McNamara was an amazing leader and had the respect of everyone in that room.

This doesn't mean that Orji is the answer, or that Davis Warren isn't, but it's time to give Orji a shot. With Warren struggling through the first three games and Orji not getting much of a chance to play despite his incredible athleticism you have to think there are guys on the team wondering why he isn't getting a chance to start.

It was an interesting move to announce Orji as the starter to the media tipping your hand to USC before one of the biggest games of the year. But you have to think that this move was likely tied to leadership and things going on within the locker room. There's other things that need to be fixed, but everything starts with establishing a culture. Maybe this is the move that gets Michigan's season rolling in the right direction.
