Things didn't work out the way Michigan football wanted with former Texas cornerback Terrance Brooks, but the Wolverines still have a few transfer portal targets on the board.

Maybe the most important, in light of the Brooks miss, is former Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham. I realize that Mangham doesn't play cornerback, but he would provide some valuable depth at safety and could step in to fill the hole left by Rod Moore when he suffered an injury.

Moore was projected to be a top-50 draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft. So his injury was a huge loss. Mangham was honorable mention All-Big Ten and had three interceptions last season. Michigan has been in contact with other safeties too, including Cameron Broussard of Sac State. The former FCS standout visited this weekend according to Pete Nakos of On3.com.

My read is that if Michigan football misses on Mangham, it will push for Broussard. A safety would allow Zeke Berry to focus on the nickel position, which then would allow Ja'Den McBurrows to be more of a corner than a nickel.

There's no doubt that Michigan is thin at cornerback and missing on these transfers isn't helping. It means that depth will have to come from within. There is hope that Michigan football can still land defensive lineman Jay'viar Suggs. Nakos reports that the Wolverines felt like the leader but LSU is hosting him for a three-day visit and the Tigers are desperate for D-line help.

If this is about NIL, as Brooks' recruitment seems to have been, I don't see Michigan football winning out. But if it's about fit and development, Michigan seems like the easy choice. Yet, it seemed like the easy choice for Brooks too and he's already committed to Illinois.
