Sherrone Moore says the best thing about Michigan football is 'We got a TEAM'

The team, the team, the team, will always be relevant to Michigan football.

Saturday was a reminder of that and something that Sherrone Moore invoked on Saturday following an epic 27-24 win over the USC Trojans in the Big Ten opener.

"The best thing about our team is that we got a TEAM," Moore said.

The Wolverines led by 14 points at one point. They had an 11-point lead at halftime and were up 10 points in the third quarter. Still, Michigan football found itself trailing 24-20 with the ball at its own 11-yard line with like 10 yards to its name in the entire second half.

Michigan football finds a way to win

It looked bleak. The probability of a touchdown drive had to be low. But computers can't calculate the heart of a champion or the power of a team.

And with its back against the wall, Michigan football stuck together and found a way. Kalel Mullings fought through defenders to get U-M down to the 17 and then willed the ball into the end zone 2-3. yards at a time until a fourth-down conversion from the one with 37 seconds left.

Sherrone Moore met with the media after the game. One news item is Will Johnson could have returned to the game if needed. He was held out as a precaution.

That's good news. So was getting a win over 11th-ranked USC. It puts Michigan back in the playoff race. Now, the Wolverines need to get back to the drawing board on offense and make it work with Alex Orji, because the defense is championship-caliber when the best players are on the field.

Still, Moore, the first-year Michigan football coach summed up the win perfectly.
