The first game of the season is rarely perfect and that was the case for Michigan football. The Wolverines won 30-10 but Fresno State had the lead down to six in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, it was a rough night. The Wolverines didn't reach 300 total yards. Davis Warren, the starting quarterback for Michigan football, completed 15-of-25 passes for 118 yards.

At times, it looked rough. However, in crunch time, Warren help engineer a touchdown drive that was capped with a touchdown pass to Colston Loveland.

Loveland caught an 18-yard pass. He also caught a 20-yarder, which was the second longest gain of the night for the Wolverines. Both quarterbacks threw touchdown passes for Michigan football -- something I predicted -- but the snap count was one-sided in favor of Warren.

I don't see any reason that would change. Alex Orji will have a role. He's a good runner and hopefully, he can throw well enough to make teams pay for loading the box.

If I was a defensive coordinator and he came in the game, I'd stack the box with 8-9 guys. It's what Texas will do. Michigan football might be able to win that battle anyway if the offensive line looks like it did during the long touchdown drive.

Other than that, there were some struggles too. I'm not worried about the O-line...yet. I am worried about the quarterback play. Here's what Sherrone Moore said to NBC Sports after the game:

“Did a really good job just managing the offense and doing things the right way. Super happy for him and we’ll keep using him, keep using Orji, but both those guys did a really good job," Moore said.

Michigan scored touchdowns twice in the red zone, which was a good sign. The touchdown drive when it was really needed was another. That should act as a confidence booster.

Remember, Michigan is down 10 starters from last season just on offense. There are plenty of regular contributors back, so this team is going to grow as the season goes on, just like the quarterbacks.

Hopefully, that growth starts to show up Saturday.
