Sherrone Moore praises 'accuracy' of Michigan football QB Jack Tuttle

Michigan football head coach didn't talk much about his quarterbacks but he did praise veteran Jack Tuttle.

One name that Michigan football fans need to remember in the quarterback competition is Jack Tuttle. He might not be the sexy name but the Wolverines don't necessarily need sexy. They need someone who will take care of the ball.

That's not to say that Alex Orji can't be that guy. The former four-star quarterback has said that "accuracy" would be the key to winning the job.

Offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell also said recently that Orji is "one of the best 11 players" on offense for the Wolverines, which makes it seem like he will have a role on the offense even if he doesn't start.

Seems like Michigan football will start Alex Orji or Jack Tuttle

If Orji isn't the starter, my money is on Tuttle. He's another former four-star quarterback. He has started a handful of games in his career and he was the primary backup last season to J.J. McCarthy. He has also sat behind Michael Penix Jr.

Tuttle wasn't available this spring. That made it hard to get a read on the quarterback competition. But over the past three seasons, the Michigan football starter has averaged five interceptions per season. That's what Sherrone Moore will want to see this season. He talked on Friday about the importance of protecting the football.

Cade McNamara wasn't an all-world quarterback in 2021. But he protected the football. Not throwing interceptions was one of McCarthy's best attributes. During Big Ten Media Days, Moore said the Wolverines would make a decision on their starting quarterback when it became clear to the staff who it should be.

That could take some time. It might even be after the season starts like 2022. Even Cade McNamara who was named the starter in 2021, had to prove he was worthy of keeping the job.

I wouldn't be shocked if Tuttle started the first game. On Thursday, Moore said (via The Wolverine) that the veteran quarterback has been "Great. Accurate. Throwing the ball with great velocity."

If he can continue to do that in fall camp, Moore and the staff will have a tough choice between Tuttle and Orji and who knows, we might see a platoon.
