Sherrone Moore on Will Johnson: 'The best corner in the country'
The expectations for Michigan football in the 2024 season are all over the map. It depends on who you ask.
But if you ask the Wolverines, the expectations haven't changed. Michigan football has won three straight Big Ten championships and the 2024 team is aiming to hang more banners.
One dude that's going to help in that effort is cornerback Will Johnson. The rising junior is elite and is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. There's a chance the 6-foot-3, 210-pound cornerback could be the No. 1 overall pick. That's how good he is.
Sherrone Moore definitely believes in Johnson. According to The Wolverine, sometimes Moore even has to tell Johnson to "chill." Here's what the Michigan football head coach said about his expectations for the star cornerback in 2024:
"To be the best corner in the country. The dude just doesn't stop working. I gotta tell him sometimes, 'Bro, you gotta chill.' "He's not satisfied with anything. He's not satisfied with hype."
Johnson probably would have been the No. 1 cornerback selected in the 2024 NFL draft if he was eligible. Johnson intercepted four passes last season, returning one for a touchdown against Minnesota. He's got seven total and seven pass breakups.
The former five-star prospect intercepted a pass against Ohio State, jumping right in front of Marvin Harrison Jr. in one of the defining plays of 'The Game' last season.
Johnson also made a key interception in the second half against Washington. That flipped momentum in favor of the Wolverines and looking ahead to 2024, there isn't another cornerback I'd rather have on Michigan football than Will Johnson.
