Michigan football legend J.J. McCarthy inked his deal with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, just ahead of the start of training camp for the 2024 season.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Michigan Wolverines' former starting quarterback signed a four-year deal worth $21.85 million and it's fully guaranteed after McCarthy was selected as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

I still remember last summer, when I predicted that McCarthy would go in the top 10, even some Michigan football fans doubted it. But McCarthy is a transcendent player. He was for the Wolverines, even if the numbers weren't mind-blowing all the time.

They will be in Minnesota though and a bunch of NFL teams will rue the day that they passed on J.J. McCarthy. That's my prediction at least. The Vikings also own a fifth-year option for the QB that led the Michigan Wolverines to their first outright national title since 1948.

When will the former Michigan football QB start?

McCarthy and the rest of the Vikings' rookies will show up for training camp on Sunday. Minnesota does have veteran Sam Darnold at quarterback yet McCarthy has gotten some rave reviews from teammates and it wouldn't be shocking if he ended up starting at some point this season.

Kevin O’Connell, the Vikings head coach, said "it's a feeling" in terms of when McCarthy will be ready to start. So he didn't put a timetable on it, but when you draft a quarterback 10th overall, it's usually just a matter of time before that quarterback plays.

Michigan Wolverines makes top 8 for top-40 point guard

Acaden Lewis is another name for Michigan basketball fans to know in the 2025 recruiting class. Out of Washington D.C., Lewis is ranked 40th overall according to the On3 Industry rankings. He also included the Michigan Wolverines among his top eight.

Michigan basketball is also in the top three for five-star point guard Darius Acuff but is battling Arkansas and Kansas. Lewis also has some heavy hitters involved in his recruitment such as Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, UConn, and Syracuse. He has visited all of those schools or has a visit scheduled which includes Michigan basketball.

Here's what Lewis told Joe Tipton of On3.com about the Michigan Wolverines:

“It’s kind of like a hometown school for me. My dad is from Detroit and my grandmother still lives there. I have family ties there. I’m used to the area. They played really great at FAU last year, they had a couple of really good seasons there. The guards that Coach (Dusty) May usually recruits look like me. They play fast, make reads, and can shoot the ball, that is the big thing for him is guards who can shoot the ball. He told me that my off-the-dribble percentages are higher than my catch-and-shoot.”
