Michigan Recruiting: Wolverines Leading for Elite Cornerbacks
Michigan football has yet to receive a commitment in the Sherrone Moore era. Despite that, the Wolverines have been surging in many areas, cornerbacks being one of them. I recently talked about how it was crucial for the Wolverines to land an elite defensive back class in 2025, and it certainly feels like they're on track.
Michigan football leads for two top cornerback targets
Michigan has a lead for two of its top cornerback targets in the 2025 class, and recently received predictions for one of them. Four star borderline top 100 recruit Dawayne Galloway, out of Ohio, recently was predicted to Michigan. It's always a big deal to lead for a top cornerback like Galloway, but it's even bigger when he's from your archrivals backyard.
This is an interesting one, because Galloway has not yet visited since Sherrone Moore took over. That tells me that his upcoming visit could be the one that makes or breaks this recruitment for Michigan. Galloway was clearly a top target under the previous staff, but the new staff likely hasn't done much of their own evaluating on Galloway
This is definitely one to keep an eye on. If the new staff determines that they still view Galloway as a great fit for their roster, Galloway could definitely be on commitment watch. Look for updates on this one as time passes.
The second target that the Wolverines seem to have a commanding lead for is four star Jahmari DeLoatch out of Virginia. DeLoatch has been a long time Michigan football lean, and many expected that he was going to commit to the Wolverines sooner rather than later. Then the staff overhaul occurred, and things quieted on that front.
Now, things appear to be trending back up. DeLoatch is in the process of scheduling an official visit, which tells us that he and the new staff appear to be in contact. DeLoatch is a guy who has been compared to Michigan legend Mike Sainristil; he could be a great slot corner for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines have a very strong lead for DeLoatch, with ON3 giving Michigan a 99.5% chance of landing his commitment. This one likely won't wrap up for at least a few months as DeLoatch takes his official visits, but the Wolverines are in a good place with DeLoatch.
Michigan is in dire need of a great defensive back haul in 2025. After back to back lackluster defensive back classes, Michgian doesn't have a lot of depth in the secondary, and will have even less following the 2024 season. The Wolverines need to hit a home run in the 2025 class, and so far they appear on track to do so.
Galloway and DeLoatch would hopefully just be the start of this defensive back class, and they would both be phenomenal lands. These will be fun to watch unfold, and hopefully the Wolverines can capitalize on this momentum.
