As well as Michigan football has been recruiting lately you can't win every battle and the Wolverines lost out on one of their top targets on Friday as Jordon Davison, a four-star running back committed to Oregon.

Davison is ranked No. 96 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot, 216-pound running back is also ranked sixth at his position and is out of Mater Dei.

Davison visited Michigan football earlier this month along with Ohio State and Oregon. it seemed like a three-way battle going into last weekend. Ohio State fell off and it was down to Michigan football an Oregon but the Ducks prevailed, which should finalize the Wolverines running back haul in 2025.

Thoughts on running back recruiting for Michigan football

It feels like a lot has happened since Tony Alford was hired away from Ohio State to be the running backs coach. Alford got Michigan football in it with a few top recruits such as Bo Jackson and Marquise Davis. Alford also played a key role in trying to land Davison.

Michigan obviously viewed him as good enough to take despite having two other running backs in the 2025 class, but even after the miss, Wolverine fans should feel good about Michigan's 2025 running backs.

Jasper Parker seems under-ranked to me. Just look at his offer sheet. Donovan Johnson can also easily out-play his ranking if he's healthy. He averaged 8.1 yards per attempt during his last healthy season and the potential is there for him to finish closer to the top-100.

So even though Michigan wanted Davison, the running back room should be just fine.
