Michigan football added its fifth commitment of the past two weeks and the fourth in the 2025 class thanks to the pledge of four-star running back Donovan Johnson.

Johnson is 6-foot, 205 pounds, and ranked No. 232 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's the ninth commitment in the 2025 class for the Wolverines and he is the eighth blue chip for Michigan football.

Here are three thoughts on the commitment of Donovan Johnson to Michigan football.

A running back with huge upside

What's crazy about Johnson is that he's ranked as the 17th-best running back recruit in the 2025 class and he didn't even play last season due to injury.

But two years ago, he averaged 8.1 yards per attempt. The kid has all the skills in the world and if you watch him play when he was healthy, he looks like a top-100 recruit.

There's a reason Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, USC, Ohio State, Auburn, Florida State, and a bunch of other major programs offered. Johnson has all the talent of an elite prospect and if he can stay healthy this upcoming season, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him rise in the rankings.
