If you watched Big Ten Media Days, you saw a confident Sherrone Moore representing Michigan football, the defending national champions on Thursday.

That's the first time a team from the Big Ten has been able to say that in a decade. But now that Jim Harbaugh has departed for the NFL, it's up to Moore to meet that standard, which he says hasn't changed.

Being the Michigan football head coach also means one thing: beating Ohio State. Jim Harbaugh struggled to do that early in his tenure before riding off into the sunset with three straight wins by an average of 14 points, including a 22-point in Columbus in 2022.

Sherrone Moore talks Ohio State rivalry

On Thursday, Moore was asked about the rivalry between Michigan football and Ohio State and said nothing has changed (via The Wolverine).

"We think about them 24/7, 365. That's wat we're going to continue to do, that's how we're going to continue to attack it. We're just going to focus on our process."

That's exactly what a Michigan head coach should say. Beating Ohio State is the No. 1 goal for Michigan football. As we have seen, when the Wolverines do that, championships tend to follow.

But as we have also seen with Ohio State, when you don't achieve that goal, which is the top goal for Ohio State too, the program is viewed as a failure. That's just the way it is.

Moore is also striking a different tone than Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. His tone is more like, sure we need to beat Michigan and we are doing all we can do that. But there isn't the "Beat Ohio or die trying" of Jim Harbaugh in 2021.

Michigan had the mindset in the early years under Jim Harbaugh. It doesn't work. You have to attack this rivalry every single day, with a maniacal mindset and those that do, they tend to win, which Michigan football done in each of the past three seasons.
