Michigan football aiming to flip SEC commitment, top target to decide Friday
Michigan football has a lot of work to do building its 2025 class. Right now, there are five commitments and the good news is that all five are ranked as four-star recruits according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
The Wolverines don't have an overwhelming amount of commitments. But so far, what they lack in quantity, they have in quality. Michigan football has a top-50 overall EDGE committed in Nate Marshall, plus a top-15 quarterback.
Michigan doesn't have any skill guys committed on offense outside of Smith, the quarterback, and that's quickly becoming a priority. Michigan football is in the mix with a bunch of wideouts, but a few top targets have started to emerge.
However, things might not be going so well with all of the top targets at wideout, because the Wolverines made a new offer to Jerome Myles on Saturday. Myles is out of Draper, Utah and he's ranked No. 315 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's 6-foot-2, 205, and runs the 100-meter dash in 10.5.
Myles is committed to Ole Miss but has official visits scheduled to Utah and Cal. He also said he would be interested in a visit to Michigan according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider. Myles visited Ole Miss late last month and pledged soon after.
RB Target Iverson Howard set to announce commitment on Friday
In a bit of a surprise, four-star running back Iverson Howard has scheduled a commitment announcement for Friday.
Out of Maryland, Howard is ranked No. 384 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, and has official visits scheduled for Michigan, Maryland, and Florida State.
Howard was supposed to visit Michigan on June 7th. Yet, it's been hard to figure out where Howard sits on the board. The Wolverines have prioritized Marquise Davis, Bo Jackson, and Jordon Davison, over Howard, but only Davison is still on the board for U-M and that feels like a long shot.
Howard told Brian Dohn of 247 Sports that he wants to go somewhere that "wins games" and develops players. Michigan and Florida State each have a case to make there, although he also mentioned Michigan football developing great running backs like Blake Corum, who is from Maryland.
I don't have a great read here but if Michigan has decided to make Howard a top priority, I could see the four-star choosing the Wolverines on Friday.
