Miami commitment Elijah Melendez on Michigan football: 'I love everything'
Elijah Melendez is one of the Wolverines' top targets in the 2025 class at the linebacker position. The four-star recruit is committed to Miami, but the Wolverines have been gaining traction and are aiming for a flip.
Out of Kissimmee, Florida Melendez is ranked No. 169 overall according to the On3 Industry rankings for the 2025 class. He committed to Miami back in November and is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds.
However, the Wolverines have been trending up. Miami isn't a big fan of its recruits taking visits at other schools, but Melendez still visited Ann Arbor during the spring. He's also taking an official visit to Michigan football in April.
Miami has also been active in trying to keep Melendez. To that end, the Hurricanes have hosted him for multiple visits this spring, plus an official visit is set for June 21. The four-star linebacker will visit Auburn this weekend before Michigan football on April 14.
Brian Jean-Mary and Wink Martindale have been building that relationship with Melendez and the blue-chip prospect told EJ Holland of The Wolverine that U-M checks all the boxes.
"I just love everything about Michigan," he said. "Time will tell."
It will be interesting to see the vibes coming out of the trip to Auburn. It feels like a two-horse race between Michigan football and Miami. The Hurricanes are more proactive with NIL so you wonder if that will be a factor.
The official visits are going to be key and we should have a good indication by the end of June just how realistic a flip this is for the Wolverines.
