The 2023-24 Michigan basketball season has been a total disaster. It's hard to remember that the Wolverines were 3-0 at one point. They have gone 5-22 since then and are 3-16 in the Big Ten.

Michigan basketball has one game left in the regular season against Nebraska, but regardless, they will enter the Big Ten tournament as the 14 seed for the first time in program history.

Juwan Howard, who missed the first chunk of the season due to heart surgery, has clearly been on the hot seat. Michigan basketball saw its NCAA tournament streak come to an end last season and this year, the bottom fell out.

Injuries and the suspension of Dug McDaniel for six road games didn't help, but the Wolverines have lost seven straight on the road by at least 20 points. At this point, they aren't even competitive.

However, you could say the same thing about Michigan football in 2020. Warde Manuel took that as an anomaly and retained Jim Harbaugh when many thought Jim should have been fired. That led to a national championship.

Juwan has won a Big Ten title and reached the Sweet 16 twice. He's got five NCAA tournament wins with Michigan basketball, so he hasn't been a total failure. The past two seasons have been disappointing though and some change is needed, even if Juwan is retained.

According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Howard is "likely" coming back as of now according to a source. Indiana decided to keep its head coach on Wednesday and while there is nothing official yet, it looks like Juwan Howard will be back with Michigan basketball too.
