1. Michigan State

This is sort of a no-brainer. Like with Penn State, Michigan didn't want Michigan State to join the Big Ten. There are a number of reasons for that. Most of them are just explained by the rivalry that goes beyond the football field between the two universities, but Michigan helped stonewall the addition of Michigan State until 1948.

There's no love lost between Michigan football and Michigan State. That's evident with a skirmish before the game in the 2018 season as well as Michigan State players attacking some Michigan football players after the 2022 game in Ann Arbor.

Michigan and Michigan State could still play in a non-conference game. We have seen that with some other rivalry games that have been impacted by conference realignment. Not playing MSU twice in the basketball season would be a bit of a bummer, but a once-a-year-matchup would be fun.

It might seem petty but Michigan would probably do what it couldn't in 1948 and kick little brother out of the Big Ten if it had a chance.
