You never know what's going to happen in recruiting and we were reminded of that on Friday as top-100 wideout Derek Meadows, a five-star prospect according to 247 Sports, and a top target for Michigan football, decided to delay his commitment by a week according to a new report.

Meadows, who is 6-foot-5, 200 pounds out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, is an elite wideout. LSU and Alabama are also in the mix along with Notre Dame and Michigan. Most expected Meadows to commit to LSU on Friday, but the fact that he pushed things back a week could be a really good thing for either Michigan or Notre Dame.

Meadows recruitment has been hard to read but LSU was the favorite going into Friday. A delay isn't usually a good thing for the favorite, although Andrew Olesh pushed back his commitment by a week and U-M still got his commitment.

Michigan football has life in recruitment of 5-star wide receiver

Notre Dame is the leader according to the On3 prediction machine at 83 percent. The Irish were a big winner from the delay by Meadows but Michigan was too. It gives the Wolverines more time to recruit the talented wideout who did take an official visit to Ann Arbor.

Notre Dame or LSU are the likely destinations. But Michigan football has had some recent recruiting wins over both schools so you can't say it's impossible. Andrew Marsh is another top-100 wideout that Michigan leads for and while the Wolverines haven't been known for their recruiting wins at wide receiver, they have landed plenty of solid prospects over the past few years.

Andrew Marsh and Meadows are better than that. They are elite and if Michigan football can get one, or maybe even both, it would be a hell of a recruiting job by Sherrone Moore.
