Could OSU Decommit Look Towards Michigan football?
Michigan football recruiting has slowed down a bit recently. While the Wolverines have been very active in the transfer portal, high school recruiting hasn't seen the same level of activity. While that is bound to change with Summer official visits set to begin very shortly, things are still being figured out for the Wolverines.
One of those things includes the defensive backs prospect list. Top 100 Purdue commit Tarrion Grant was viewed as a top target - until he reclassified to 2024 and enrolled at Purdue. However, it appears there could be a new target back on the board in top 100 recruit Blake Woodby.
Woodby had been committed to Ohio State since October, but with the Buckeyes having commitments from the top two corners in the country and eyeing other top recruits, it appears Woodby was somewhat pushed out of the class. Sounds like a guy who could be interested in what the Wolverines have to say.
Add in the fact that he attends St Frances Academy in Baltimore, which has been friendly to Michigan football in the past, and has a relationship with Blake Corum and this looks like a recruitment that the Wolverines should naturally be a part of.
Woodby has always been high on Michigan, and it would make sense for the Wolverines to try to put together a visit for him. With that said...
NIL could be an issue here
Woodby is a top 100 player at a premium position, and thus is going to commend some substantial NIL money from most schools. At this point, Oregon appears to be the team to beat in his recruitment, and the Ducks are a known NIL powerhouse.
Michigan football remains hesitant to offer any money to recruits despite every other school doing so and has been paying the price over the past three recruiting classes. While there has been some movement in the right direction, the Wolverines remain behind most other schools.
With that being said, if the Wolverines can get Woodby on campus this could become interesting. Oregon is a long ways from Baltimore, and Michigan could pitch the potential for early playing time. This is definitely one to keep an eye on, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. Go blue.
