Michigan football righted the ship for at least one afternoon against USC last weekend, but another test comes to town on Saturday in the form of the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Minnesota is 2-2. However, in terms of being able to match up against Michigan football, it feels like Minnesota is more prepared to play the kind of game Michigan wants to play.

USC has been known as a soft team ever since Lincoln Riley arrived and they did nothing to dispel that notion last week. One team that's not soft is Minnesota. That's why Michigan fooball needs all hands on deck, because running over the Gophers as U-M did to USC may not happen.

Michigan football passing game needs Colston Loveland

That means that Alex Orji will have to step up and make some plays in the passing game. Throwing for 32 yards isn't going to cut it. Of course, one thing working against Orji was the fact that tight end Colston Loveland, a projected first-round pick didn't play.

Loveland had eight receptions in each of the first two games. He also caught three passes for 30 yards against Arkansas State before leaving the game due to injury. Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said Loveland was "close" to playing against the Trojans.

The official injury report hasn't come out yet. Loveland will probably be listed but according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine, he is "expected" to suit for the Maize and Blue. That's great news, especially for a team trying to find any identity throwing the football.
