Beers, bets and bites for Michigan football Week 6
The Michigan football team is traveling out West to take on the Washington Huskies on Saturday night. We have a Gameday recipe and prop bet to make your college football Saturday even better. Let's get into it.
Michigan football Gameday recipe: Smoked pulled pork sandwiches
Ingredients: Pork shoulder, mustard, barbecue seasoning, butter.
Smoked pork shoulder is one of our favorite things to eat on a college football Saturday. It is also super simple so you can spend more time watching football throughout the day. Start by brushing on mustard all over your pork shoulder.
This is going to be the binder for the meat that will help your seasoning stick throughout the entire smoking process. Next, use your favorite seasoning to liberally coat the pork. Do not be afraid to use a lot of seasoning as this will give the meat flavor and help create a nice bark on it, too. Once you have seasoned the meat, you are ready to throw it in the smoker.
Smoke time for the meat can range from 15-20 hours depending on the type of smoker you have and the size of the pork shoulder.
I like to put my pork in the smoker at 10:00 PM the night before I plan to eat it. I put the smoker at the lowest temperature possible while it is in there overnight. At about 8:00 or 9:00 the following morning, I raise my smoker temperature to 225 degrees. I keep it there until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 200 degrees. The last step is to remove the pork from the smoker and wrap it in tin foil or butcher paper.
I like to cut up a piece of butter and place it on the meat while it is resting. The meat should rest for at least one hour after it is done smoking.
As a side note, I have learned to not mess with the meat too much while smoking it. It will come together nicely and create a great bark by just letting it sit in the smoker. Once you have let the meat rest, you are ready to shred and assemble your sandwiches. We love to use Martin's potato rolls for our buns and we add coleslaw to them as well. Fries, onion rings and baked beans are all great sides to add. A good beer to pair with this meal is from Terrapin Brewery, called "Luau Krunkles". It is a delicious IPA with an ABV of 6.5%.
Michigan football week 6 prop bet:
Colston Loveland has over 40 receiving yards at +110. Colston Loveland played last week vs Minnesota but he clearly was not 100% and his snaps were limited. He recently said in an interview he is ready to roll and is a full go this week vs Washington.
A truly mind-blowing stat this year for Michigan football is that Colston Loveland has more receiving yards than the next four guys COMBINED on the roster. This is true even with him missing the entire game vs USC. Loveland is the best tight end in the country and they are going to need to throw the ball in key situations to beat Washington.
Although I expect the game plan to be run-heavy, I do expect Loveland to play a major role in this Michigan offense on Saturday night. The Washington defense ranks top 10 in both opponent completion percentage and opponent yards per game passing. This bet is based more on believing in Loveland and the offense more than it is exposing a weakness in the Washington defense. Pulled pork, Colston Loveland, Michigan football, GO BLUE!
