Alex Orji has high praise for Michigan football transfer wide receiver
One of the positions that Michigan football wanted to fortify this spring was wide receiver. The Wolverines had some departures during the spring window, but even without that, they probably needed to add some depth after Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson went to the NFL.
The players on the roster had plenty of talent, but there was some uproven depth, so Michigan football added Youngstown State transfer CJ Charleston, as well as Amorion Walker.
Walker played for the Wolverines before transferring to Ole Miss for a spring. Walker is a 6-foot-3 receiver who could be a playmaker on the outside. He has the ability to get deep, but he also needs to show he can live up to his potential.
Charleston is 6 feet, 190 pounds. He caught 33 passes last season for 504 yards and four touchdowns. The numbers aren't great but he has played against Michigan State and Ohio State before.
Charleston also doesn't have to play a huge role for Michigan this season. Right now, he might be the 5th-6th wideout on the depth chart. It would be a luxury if he had a breakout season or emerged as a top target for whoever is the starting quarterback.
Yet, Alex Orji, one of the guys battling it out to be the starting quarterback, said this about the new Michigan football wide receiver according to Alejandro Zuniga of The Michigan Insider.
"CJ's been a really interesting guy to be around. He doesn't say a lot, he's one of the quieter guys. But the things that he's able to do from the slot and the outside, the ball-in-hand type of guy, it's ridiculous. The amount of shift that he has, the quickness, the agility is really up there. It's like guys like Semaj and Tyler Morris that are able to make a move in a phone booth. It's super quick and interesting to look at."
Some guys just need an opportunity. I know some fans might think a former FCS player can't make an impact at Michigan but that's just not true. Every situation presents its own opportunity and Michigan football might provide the perfect chance for Charleston to shine.
