The defense is still elite but getting gassed

Things snowballed at the end of the game but Minnesota was still held under 300 yards. Michigan football notched five sacks -- with two coming from Mason Graham.

Graham was flagged for an illegal hands to the face which didn't happen on a fourth down in the fourth quarter. Minnesota scored on the next play. If the call is right, the game might be over.

But it would have definitely been over if Orji hits Edwards on the wheel route for a touchdown. The defense wasn't perfect and couldn't get off the field in the second half, but they also didn't have Will Johnson or Josaiah Stewart -- two high NFL draft picks.

Those guys will make a difference. That's Michigan's best cover guy and best pass rusher. TJ Guy had a solid day with a sack in his Stewart's absence. Hill played great. The depth is starting to emerge, but the offense has to avoid long stretches of ineptitude.

This defense has worn out in the fourth quarter two weeks in a row and that's a worrisome trend.
