Kalel Mullings is RB1
Michigan football has one of the best running back duos in the country, as long as the coaching staff is using both players.
Mullings was notably absent against Texas, especially in the first half of the game. That can't happen because it's clear he's the best running back on this team.
Mullings had two touchdown runs over over 30 yards and ran 15 times for 153 yards. He created the explosive plays that the offense has been missing and there's no reason he shouldn't get the most carries in this offense going forward.
Out of 101 running backs with at least 30 carries, Michigan RB Kalel Mullings ranks:
— Zach Shaw (@_ZachShaw) September 15, 2024
- 12th in yards per carry (7.5)
- 3rd in yards after contact per carry (6.0)
- 16th in runs of 15+ yards (5)
- 5th in PFF's rushing grade (85.4)
- 7th in PFF's offensive grade (84.8)
Mullings ranks among the top 12 in five different categories nationally. He needs to be the lead back. As Sherrone Moore said, Donovan Edwards isn't chop liver. He should get plenty of touches too and if the offensive staff had an ounce of creativity, his talents wouldn't be wasted.
