Defensive depth is better than expected

One of the biggest percieved differences between the 2023 defense and the 2024 Michigan football is a lack of depth, at least that how it was viewed going into fall camp.

Michigan won't be as deep as it was on defense in 2023. The Wolverines were like a hockey team at times, with shift changes, even on the defensive line.

The four D-line starters: Moore, Grant, Graham, and Stewart will all have to play more snaps than they did last season. But they each want to play in the NFL, so why not get ready for that?

However, depth options have started to emerge. Rayshaun Benny is healthy and that's huge. But Enow Etta, Trey Pierce, and freshman Dominic Nichols are standing out on the defensive line, along with TJ Guy, Kechaun Bennett, and Breeon Ishmail who stood out in the spring.

Jimmy Rolder and Jaydon Hood should provide depth at linebacker along with freshman Cole Sullivan. And the reinforcements added in the spring transfer window have fit in nicely in the secondary.

Aamir Hall has given everyone Josh Wallace vibes, while Wesley Walker is pushing for a starting job at safety according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider. Sophomore Bradyn Hillman has also emerged as another name to watch in the nickel competition and so far, the lack of defensive depth seems overblown.
