Jaishawn Barham will be a game-changer

There have been rumblings that the Michigan football defense in 2024 could be even better than the unit that led Michigan to a national championship in 2023.

It might be hard to believe but the Wolverines have Mason Graham, Will Johnson, Kenneth Grant, Derrick Moore, Josaiah Stewart, Ernest Hausmann, and Makari Paige all returning. Plus, Michigan football added Jaishawn Barham from the transfer portal.

The former Maryland linebacker has already been honorable mention All-Big Ten twice and according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, his play in camp has drawn comparisons to Devin Bush.

Junior Colson was one of the biggest departures from last season's defense and if Barham can equal his impact, that will be a big box checked off. There are other holes to fill, but this defense didn't need another impact player and it got one in Barham, who could be the most impactful transfer in the Big Ten conference this season on the defensive side of the ball.
