Dusty May

We have already talked about Dusty May quite a bit. The Florida Atlantic head coach has the Owls back in the NCAA tournament after they reached the Final Four last season.

I understand wanting more of a "proven" coach than that. But I just don't see that being realistic. I don't know that there's a coach out there that Michigan basketball can hire who will have the resume to please fans, who are being somewhat unrealistic.

Michigan football will always be No. 1. NIL with Michigan basketball is questionable and admissions standards don't help. If NIL/admissions weren't issues, Hunter Dickinson, Caleb Love, and Terrence Shannon might have all been Wolverines this season. If that's the case, Michigan would be playing this weekend, instead of at home with a fired head coach.

So you need a coach willing to build. May has invested in high school recruiting and was able to keep his team intact after last season's Final four run despite coaching at FAU which isn't a powerhouse and doesn't have the NIL money of a college basketball power.

May would be a risk but there isn't a name on the list that's a sure-fire home-run hire. There's just not, but Ohio State was interested in May and so is Louisville. He's also the only dude on the list of candidates who has coached a team to a Final Four and to me, that means something.
