4-star Marquise Davis on Michigan football: 'They offer everything an RB would want'
The impact of new running backs coach Tony Alford has been tangible on the recruiting trail. The Wolverines are in the mix with a number of new running back targets, including some from Ohio.
One of those is four-star running back Marquise Davis. Out of Cleveland, Davis is ranked No. 169 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's 6-foot, 190 pounds, and is also the 12th-ranked running back in his class, as well as the 7th-best player in the state of Ohio.
Davis wasn't even considering Michigan football anymore before Alford made the switch. The Wolverines made his most recent cut list and Davis has made two separate visits the past two weeks, inclduing a trip last weekend.
While Ohio State is hard to beat for in-state recruits, Michigan football landed the top-ranked running back from the state in the 2024 class, Jordan Marshal. The Wolverines are also in the mix with Bo Jackson, another four-star running back from the state of Ohio.
Yet, it feels like Davis could wind up as a Michigan football commitment. Following his recent visit to Ann Arbor, he told EJ Holland of The Wolverine, "They offer everything that a running back would want."
Few, if any teams run the ball as much as Michigan. The Wolverines are dedicated to the running game and with Sherrone Moore as the head coach, that's not going to change. That should be appealing to any running back plus the chance to play for an elite offensive line.
We'll see how that sales pitch works with Davis, but right now, the Wolverines feel like they are close to the top of his recruitment, which is a big change from a couple of months ago.
