3 thoughts from Big Ten Network's Michigan Football practice report
By Nick Popio
On Tuesday the Big Ten Network visited Michigan's campus to see how the football program is doing since they opened up camp on July 31st. They sat down with coaches and players to discuss the nuances of life beyond the national championship.
Jake Butt said Zeke Berry is going to fill Mikey Sainristil's spot at nickel. They also revealed that the Michigan football defense won't be as deep as a year ago, I personally tend to disagree with that, but that doesn't mean that they will fall off of a cliff either. They're expecting an emergence of Tyler Morris and no one is better than Colston Loveland at the tight end position in the nation.
Here are some thoughts on the practice progress so far.
1. Michigan football is being underestimated
One of the takeaways from the crew was that the Wolverines are being slept on. They think that they are going to be better then people are giving them credit for. Even though they lost so much to the NFL, they have a lot of guys who played snaps in last year's championship season and are ready to step into the starting lineup.
They mentioned how coach Moore isn't really changing anything besides more music being played at practice. There also is a feeling that they have a "chip" on their shoulders to surprise some folks who thinks they will be not live up to the program's standards. They are confident that they can continue this run without coach Harbaugh and J.J. McCarthy.
We all know by now that if McCarthy returned or the offense had a more experienced quarterback, then there wouldn't be as much concern as there is at the most important in the sport.
