Spring ball starts on Monday for Michigan football and here are three thoughts on the Wolverines as they hit the field under Sherrone Moore for the first time.

Player retention

One of the most important parts of spring football for the Wolverines is getting the buy-in of returning players. So far, Michigan football hasn't lost any starters to the transfer portal. Keon Sabb was going to play a lot more this season, and that hurt, but if that's it, U-M will be just fine.

I wouldn't be stunned at a transfer portal departure or two this spring, but I wouldn't expect the mass exodus rival fans once prayed for, just like they keep praying the NCAA will vacate Michigan's national title and wins over Ohio State, because, well, they have nothing left.

Kenneth Grant, Mason Graham, Will Johnson, Donovan Edwards, and Colston Loveland are some of the most important players to keep and there hasn't been a whisper about a departure. As long as the defensive guys like their roles within the scheme, that shouldn't change.

They are all on track to be early-round picks and Michigan football needs to show them that the best path for their future remains in Ann Arbor, which Sherrone Moore has done so far.

No head coach, hired this offseason, has done a better job of player retention than Sherrone Moore and I wouldn't expect that to change during the spring portal window.
