3 pressing transfer portal needs for Michigan Football this offseason
By Nick Popio
3. A more experienced quarterback
Jadyn Davis is the future, but how soon is that? Will he be ready to start against Fresno State or will it be someone who isn't on the roster yet? Michigan football will have to wait it out if they wish to add a quarterback who is better than anyone that they have right now. Spring ball will decipher who stays and who goes on to greener pastures, like Ann Arbor.
There's practically no one left in the portal at the moment, so getting Alex Orji and others as many reps as possible has to be the plan. This is the most worrisome of the three because virtually no one has thrown a pass in a game yet.
Orji completed one pass for five yards in his career, while Jayden Denegal was 4-5 for 80 yards in garbage time. If they can't get someone by August, then why not let Davis wing it? All he has to do is hand the ball off to Donovan Edwards and be a game manager anyways.
All is not doom and gloom though, unless that's the way to function. Michigan football does have to emphasize the NIL support more to land more four and five-star athletes.
There are conflicting reports on whether or not they are working on that. However they have already won the national championship in this era, so all they have to do now is sustain this success for as long as they can, and that shouldn't be as major of a problem as some make out to be.
