It was a tough week for Michigan football fans as Texas made it clear that the Wolverines have a long way to go if they are even going to make the College Football Playoff.

The ceiling needs to be re-adjusted. People felt like Michigan football could still win the national title, at least until Saturday. It was clear this just isn't the same team.

Now, this Michigan football team can find its own identity. It needs to. Coordinators Wink Martindale and Kirk Campbell need to figure it out, too, because the early returns haven't been great.

The good news, I guess, is that there plenty of difficult games on the schedule so if Michigan gets it together, it could have a strong resume. And in football, things can change a lot from one week to the next.

That tends to happen more in the NFL though. If you don't have the talent, you don't have it and I'm questioning if Michigan football has it, or at least if it's ready to go.

Looking back at Week 2

Texas certainly helped itself down the road, assuming Michigan doesn't fall off a cliff. Northern Illinois has also put itself in the playoff mix after a road win over Notre Dame.

Looking at the ACC and Big 12, they still appear to be one-bid leagues for the College Football Playoff, but we'll have a better idea later in the season after some of the attrition bound to happen in the Big Ten and SEC. A team like Utah has a good shot to sneak in as an at-large.

It will be even more difficult for the ACC and unless Florida State wins out, it's hard to see the league having two teams in the College Football Playoff. Here are our updated College Football Playoff Rankings after Week 2 and no, Michigan isn't anywhere to be found.
