2024 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction after Week 1
Michigan football opened the season with a sluggish win over Fresno State. However, it feels like a win that will grow more impressive as the season goes on.
Fresno State is one of the best Group of Five programs in existence. They won nine games last season and they were always going to be more of a challenge than teams like Hawaii.
On a larger scale though, Michigan football got a solid win as some others faltered such as Florida State, which has lost twice now to ACC opponents. Miami notched an impressive win at Florida and looks like the class of the ACC for now, which might not be saying much.
Oregon also looked pedestrian against Idaho, but again it's Week 1. The College Football Playoff is going to have a 12-team format this season which opens the door for eight more berths.
That should make the season much more exciting. This week, you have Michigan football going up against Texas in a game with College Football Playoff implications. The winner will have a top-10 win on their resume, which would strengthen the chances of an at-large berth for either team.
Tennessee also plays North Carolina State is another top-25 matchup, while third-ranked Oregon (AP poll) takes on Boise State, a team some have pegged as a playoff contender.
For now, Georgia and Ohio State look like the best teams. But it's super early and with each week we learn more but here's our Week 1 College Football Playoff projection.
