On Sunday, we listed three Big Ten transfers that Michigan football should target if they become available in the transfer portal.

On Monday, one of them, former Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh, entered the portal via Hayes Fawcett of On3.

It came one day after the Spartans fired head coach Jonathan Smith after two terrible seasons as the head coach. Pat Fitzgerald took over, which is a shrewd hire.

Yet, a new head coach usually means roster turnover and for the Spartans, it means losing their best wide receiver.

Michigan football needs to go after Nick Marsh

Marsh, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from Detroit had 100 receptions in two seasons with the Spartans. He even caught five passes for 75 yards in a loss to Michigan football back in October.

Looking ahead to the offseason, Marsh has often been talked about as a potential target for the Wolverines in the portal. It felt like there was a good chance he would enter, as the move to fire Smith started to feel inevitable.

Now that Marsh is in the portal, Michigan needs to aggressively court him. He's exactly the kind of wideout the Wolverines need to pair with Bryce Underwood and true freshman Andrew Marsh. Nick already has the perfect name.

He's also a former in-state recruit. Underwood should be able to help recruit him, and in terms of transfer portal additions, this feels like a no-brainer. Of course, it takes two to tango. But since Marsh's coach was fired, that 30-day window should be open, and if that's the case, Michigan football needs to do whatever it takes to get him to Ann Arbor.

If you want to beat Ohio State in 2026, adding Nick Marsh would be a good place to start.
