Michigan football found a way to save its season, for at least a week, thanks to a 21-18 win over Penn State on Saturday.

The Wolverines were down 3-0 at the half when Kyle Whittingham finally decided to bench Bryce Underwood and turn things over to Tommy Carr.

Carr, the grandson of former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr, led the Wolverines to three touchdown drives in the second half, thanks to some help from the defense. He scored on a touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help ice the win.

Carr didn't have spectacular numbers. He completed 5 of 7 passes for 45 yards. The freshman also ran four times for 36 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, he didn't turn the ball over.

Michigan's running game and the defense seemed to benefit. Penn State dropped to 0-4 in the Big Ten, though, so it's nothing to write home about.

Odds for Michigan vs. indiana

Beating Indiana would be. That's the next team on the schedule and the Hoosiers are listed as 7.5-point favorites. The over/under is 41.5.

The Hoosiers are ranked 6th in the AP poll, following a 19-15 loss to Ohio State. Nick Marsh was wide open for the game-winning touchdown, but Josh Hoover led him out of bounds.

Indiana will be looking to prove a point and stay on track in the Big Ten title race. The Hoosiers can afford a loss to Ohio State and maybe one other, but that's it.

Northwestern nearly beat Indiana in Bloomington earlier this season. Nebraska led the Hoosiers by 11 in the fourth quarter, so this isn't the same team that went 16-0. If the running game has truly awakened, and if Carr can build on what he did last week, the defense is good enough to give Michigan a chance.

Michigan football needs to win out to make the College Football Playoff. That's a tall task. Beating Indiana feels possible, though, especially if the Wolverines can run the ball and Carr can take care of it.
