Michigan fans are eagerly awaiting any news they can get out of Michigan's fall camp practices as the football season inches closer each day. With so much going on with fall camp, it is easy to miss bits of news either from camp or the other sports, so we are bringing a few updates from around Michigan Athletics to start your week off.
Jay Hill makes stellar prediction about Michigan's defense in 2026
Michigan's defense has historically been the highlight of the Wolverines on the field. Even though the Wolverines won a National Championship back in 2023, the offense was good enough to support a shutdown defense that suffocated opposing offenses.
Now, with new defensive coordinator Jay Hill, who brings his coaching excellence from BYU over the last few seasons, he is already making some bold statements about this Michigan defense. Hill believes this could be the best defense he has ever coached, but he doesn't want to get ahead of himself just yet.

Michigan brought back some stellar talent this season on the defensive side of the ball, like Rod Moore, who is coming off an injury last season. While the linebacker room still brings major questions, Hill could be onto something here in talking about the talent of this defense.
Jim Harding sets expectation on having a full starting offensive line
The offensive line is littered with talent, but the tough job for Jim Harding is figuring out the combination of the best players possible to protect star quarterback Bryce Underwood. There are a couple of position battles happening on the offensive line, but Harding doesn't want to wait till Week 1 to make the decision on starters.
Harding told the media that he hopes to have an offensive line set at least two weeks before the start of the season. It makes sense because that group will need time to gel in order to give the best protection possible to Underwood.

Michigan, Mike Boynton is in a crowded race for 5-star prospect Brady Pettigrew
Mike Boynton has only been the head basketball coach at Michigan for about a month, but he is already hitting the recruiting trail hard. This shouldn't be anything new for Boynton, who did a lot of the recruiting alongside Dusty May when he was an assistant coach for the former Michigan head man.
Boynton has already started handing out offers, one of which is to five-star guard Brady Pettigrew. The Illinois native has received a total of 34 offers so far, putting Michigan in a very crowded race for one of the top prospects in the Class of 2028.
Pettigrew is ranked as the No. 1 combo guard in the Class of 2028 and would be a great addition for Boynton, who is coaching for a bigger contract after signing a two-year deal back in July.

While fall camp is underway in the college ranks, training camp is in full swing in the NFL, and former Wolverines are making their names known on the field. Former defensive end Mike Morris is making a splash in another way, specifically on the Seahawks' social media page.
Before a practice one day, the social media page did a trend where they gave players a shirt from their rival college, asking them to sign it. Some guys simply gave the shirt back, laughing and saying no, but Morris took it a step further. Morris was handed an Ohio State shirt, and he didn't just hand it back; he threw it on the ground, stomped on it, and even ripped it with his teeth, showing that this rivalry is one that runs deep, even years after college.
