It was reported on Friday morning that Michigan football would not have star cornerback Will Johnson for the Ohio State game on Saturday and by Friday night, it started to look like the Michigan Wolverines would also be without Colston Loveland.

Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said both players were "trending" toward playing this week. Moore has also said he's not a doctor.

The medical prognosis is out for Johnson if the report from Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports is accurate. Pete Thamel of ESPN reported on Friday that there was "Pessimism" about the availability of Loveland, who left in the Northwestern game last week and didn't return.

Beating Ohio State was already going to be a big hill to climb for Michigan football. The Wolverines are 6-5 and 19-point underdogs. The Buckeyes are also playing for a spot in the Big Ten championship game, and for the job of Ryan Day because if he loses this game, he probably only keeps his job by winning the national title.

An upset feels like a longshot. But anything can happen in rivalry games and college football (see Georgia Tech). The Yellow Jackets had No. 7 Georgia on the ropes, down 17-0 before eventually losing in eight overtimes.

Maybe Michigan football can have a similar effort, but pull off an upset like in 1996 or like Ohio State did in the first season under Jim Tressel back in 2001. That wasn't a great Buckeye team but it won in Ann Arbor.

Missing two future first-round picks won't help matters.

Michigan Wolverines notch win in women's basketball

The Michigan Wolverines are taking part in the Fort Myers Tip-Off on the women's side of things too and U-M scored a 68-58 win over Belmont on Friday in Fort Myers.

Michigan actually trailed at the half before a 20-12 spurt in the third quarter before pulling away. It was a rough shooting night for Michigan (33 percent). However, Olivia Olson led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Hobbs had 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Syla Swords had 14 points and eight rebounds. Swords and Hobbs each hit three 3-pointers each.

The Michigan Wolverines will take on Virginia Tech in the Fort Myers championship at 7:30 PM EST against Virginia Tech. Michigan is 33rd in the Bart Torvik rankings for women's basketball. Virginia Tech is 53rd so it will be a solid test. The game will be shown on the Women's Sports Network.
