With the Indiana job opening up at the end of the season, there has been plenty of chatter about Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May.

It's not without reason. May, who is his first season with Michigan basketball, served as a manager under head coach Bobby Knight. He's also from Indiana, so there are plenty of ties.

The good news for Michigan basketball fans is that May has denied any interest in the job, at least publicly. However, the Michigan Wolverines would be smart to act this offseason and sign May to an extension, something that seems to be in the works according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine.

There doesn't seem to be a huge concern that May will leave but after putting together an impressive first season with Michigan basketball sitting at 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the Big Ten (first place) a new contract is warranted.

Michigan Wolverines fans wil breathe easier once May is signed to an extension and the threat of him leaving for Indiana is officially off the table.

Speaking of Michigan basketball, ESPN updated its bracketology projections on Friday. The Wolverines are a No. 4 seed following their win over Purdue. We'll see if Michigan is among the top 16 teams released by the NCAA tournament selection committee this weekend.

Michigan baseball upsets No. 2 Virginia on opening day

The 2025 Michigan baseball season opened on Friday in Puerto Rico and the Wolverines started the season with a bang, upsetting No. 2 Virginia 5-4 in extra innings.

Mitch Voit got Michigan on the board early in the game, thanks to an RBI double as U-M plated two runs in the first inning. The Cavaliers tied the game but Michigan catcher Matt Spear answered with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Virginia sent the game to extra innings with a two-run home run of its own in the top of the ninth, but Spear came through with an RBI double in the 11th to win the game in walk-off fashion. Johnathan Kim, Voit, and Benjamin Casillas all had two hits.

Spear led Michigan baseball with three hits and three RBIs. Dylan Vigue gave Michigan six solid innings as the starting pitcher with just two runs allowed on six hits. Gavin DeVoogth was credited with the win after coming on in relief. He tossed 2 1/3 innings scoreless innings and had three strikeouts.

Michigan Wolverines get top-5 win in hockey

12th-ranked Michigan hockey is trying to lock up an NCAA tournament berth and certainly helped its case on Friday night with a 3-2 overtime victory over fourth-ranked Minnesota in Ann Arbor. Ethan Edwards broke the tie in the extra session, securing an extra point in the standings for Michigan hockey.

Michigan has a six-point lead over Wisconsin for the fourth and final spot in the Big Ten hockey tournament, which the Wolverines won last season by knocking off Michigan State.
